2. A surgical extraction

A surgical extraction is performed when the tooth extraction procedure involves complications like broken tooth structure, impacted teeth or teeth with long and twisted roots. An incision is made in the gums to give the tooth a better exposure and the tooth is pulled out after removing the underlying bone tissues.

When is a tooth extraction performed?

Your dentist's primary motive is to keep your natural teeth healthy and in place for as long as possible. However, sometimes it becomes necessary to get a tooth extracted for maintaining oral and overall health. You may require a tooth extraction in any of the following scenarios:

• Dental trauma from accidents like car collision can cause severe damage to the teeth. The teeth break above or below the gum line. Tooth extraction is required to uproot such broken teeth.
